Psychological Evaluation and Counseling Services
MedCenter Work Recovery, LLC (MCWR), is an outpatient pain rehabilitation facility. We provide a wide range of pain management and psychological services to injured workers and the public. Some of the services include psychological evaluations, individual counseling, and group counseling.
Each psychological evaluation will consist of a clinical interview, a review of your medical records, and the completion of psychological instruments and questionnaires. You will have the opportunity to ask questions or address any concerns with our behavioral health specialist. Please be prepared to answer any questions regarding your previous surgical history, medications you are currently taking, and other services you have received to assist in alleviating your pain. Each evaluation typically takes a few hours to complete. The clinicians will make every effort to complete the assessment in an efficient manner.
Some of the evaluations provided at MCWR are:
- Psychological Evaluation
- Behavioral Pain Evaluation
- Pre-surgical Evaluation
- Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation
Individual counseling is typically performed on a weekly or bimonthly experience; each counseling session lasting approximately 45 minutes. Patients of MedCenter Work Recovery, LLC need to be aware that counseling frequently produces internal changes and it is not uncommon for a client to experience a surge of strong feelings upon entering the therapeutic relationship. The information shared in these sessions will remain confidential, with minimal exceptions to be reviewed with the counselor. Individual counseling is a safe arena to discuss your personal concerns related to your pain experience, whether it be trouble sleeping, relationship or family struggles, discussing feelings of frustration, worry, or depression. Some of the sessions may include using cognitive behavioral techniques, assertiveness training, addressing feelings of fear and avoidance, learning relaxation exercises, building self-esteem and identify ways to improve anger or stress management. The duration and frequency of treatment will vary as a function of the presenting problems.
Group counseling is performed on a daily basis. The group usually consists of anywhere between 2 to 8 patients. The group at MCWR is considered an open group, which means that group members start and end at different times. In this group you will be provided the opportunity to share your experience with others who may be going through a similar situation. Often times family, friends, and coworkers are unable to completely empathize with your experience because they have not experienced being injured and unable to physically and emotionally fully recover. This experience is unique in that you are able to get a sense on understanding and reduce feelings of isolation. During group you will learn through discussion, lecture, readings, and film, alternative ways to help improve your response to pain. Everyday a different topic will be covered to help you manage your pain more effectively. Some examples include relaxation and distraction techniques, nutrition and pain, the importance of exercise, ways to reduce stress, addressing barriers when returning to work, and ways to help restructure negative thoughts. It is important to understand that it is not always possible to ensure strict confidentiality when disclosing personal information during group therapy.
All of the therapists associated with MCWR have proper training and credentialing for the provision of services that they provide. All have at minimum a master’s degree and psychologists have their doctorate. All mental health professionals providing services at MCWR abide by the code of ethics specific to their profession.
